I think the first one means that they are pro-environment, but I'm not sure it might not be misinterpreted as supporting the Republican VP candidate.

Lastly, a local cause or two--save piedmont park; don't wreck your car cause you're on a cell phone, and some residual support from the last election. This car even had coverred up a Kathy Cox for governor sticker (GA election a few years ago...Sonny won).

Unfortunately, I don't have a clearer picture of the one below. I guess I could try harder, but I was in my car. sometimes seeing them on the screen of a computer helps clear it up.

The car of sea turtle love

So, my favorite of this complete hodgepodge/dump is the car-of-sea-turtle love. Second place is the equality sticker juxtaposed with the confederate veterans heritage plate. Shows how narrow minded I am. Then you can see a clearer picture of the drill for oil sticker (so far I only see them on McCain-stickered cars. Anyone who still has Nader 2001 stickers has my admiration for being a true-believer. (as always, click on the picture to see it larger, and possibly more readable)

Above (the truck with all the stickers on the window), you can see the McCain sticker, to the left of the W `04 sticker, and the outdoors stickers (ron jon, YNP-yellowstone national park, Colorado, and the Miami Hurricanes). There's one (in red, I can't quite make out now, but its "got _____" something? The final sticker says, to tailgaters, "unless your a hemorroid, get off my ___"

Republicans and the right wing

Okay, first, self-explanatory. Not for Obama `08.

I had another picture (a truck) with a snarky bumper sticker about fuel, but its hard to read, so I'm gonna have to clean it up or something.

Next, another hard to read one, but the key thing is the middle and right hand stickers are confederate "stars and bars" stickers...now, it may be a poor inference, but I'm just thinking they didn't vote for Hillary or Barack. Possibly John Edwards, but I kind of doubt it. (Update: the one on the far left says "_____ is American" and I just can't remember or make out what it says).

The bottom one, also a little hard to see (its really hard to take pictures from the road with a phone camera) is, far left, McCain 2008, middle, something along the lines of Drill Here, Drill Now, More Oil (not verbatim, but that's the gist), and a troops support sticker. I feel like the McCain 2008 is a safe bet Republican car.

I have at least one picture to retrieve from the text-message queue on my phone. So, there are additional not-found-by-me pictures to come.

Occupations first. Above is a tastefully decked out Marine corps supporter/member/veteran. Bumper sticker, license plate frame, and hitch cover. The only thing missing is a service specific license plate. And the green truck really sets it all off. Below, is a really impressive display of hunting (specifically deer, and with bow). Also, a GA wildlife plate, and on the side of the vehicle, spill over from the decals and advertising a service to other hunters.

Above, a suggestion. Below, either a warning, or compensation for the CRX.

I wish my camera were more powerful or that I had been somewhere where I could stop and get a good picture of the vanity plate I saw the other day. It was a Slytherin supporter. The plate used numbers to spell it all out (leading me to believe there is another one out there). 5LTH3RIN
They also had a Slytherin Class of ______ bumper sticker, and other stuff, like bands stickers. Oh well. If I see them again I'll do better.

More sarcastic bumper stickers. I think I figured out why yesterdays pictures were sort of lame, and hopefully have fixed it. My phone thought it was taking beautiful close-ups, not large views of the backsides of cars....

I actually saw a politically adorned car with Republican stickers on it (Sonny Perdue for Governor), but I was on a limited access highway, and felt it was not the time to snap a photo. Hope to run into it again.

Unfortunately, the pictures here are a bit fuzzy. I was in a hurry. The lower right hand one says "My Child Eats Buggers" and the lower left side says, "My Fundamentalist Religion Can Beat Up Your Fundamentalist Religion", in the middle, of course, the AAA 'save us' sticker. Perhaps the close up picture is easier to read, or if you click on the image it will be easier to see.

The truck might be hard to see, I was a bit lazy in capturing it. I think the theme of that vehicle is hypocrisy annoys them.

So, above and to the right, the ideal of a college/grad student vehicle. Possibly handed down through several generations of Ball State Cardinals. And, below, the parents of some members of a local band, perhaps tutored by some of the members of the (renowned, in fact) Ball State music faculty. Also note the special license plate (In God We Trust), apparently this specialty plate is free and according to a "local man" its caused a bit of controversy. Not at the Olive Garden, though, where its quite popular (I didn't count, but I promise there were a row of them parked together):

Welcome to my neighborhood. . . or at least the part of my neighborhood that likes to proclaim itself. I think if there are any red, or even purple, dots in this blue county, they are silent or wearing blue. I think that people probably are more comfortable being boisterous when surrounded by people like them, or at least people they think are like them. I'm sure someone in psychology has studied this. But since supposedly people are moving into areas that are politically more and more homogeneous and thus more and more districts are "safe"...maybe its a safe assumption that everyone around you thinks like you do? I don't know. But I think my favorite on the truck is "Tree Hugging Dirt Worshiper"

Motorcycles

The New York Times has this post on motorcycles and the economy today. Since we've been talking a lot about motorcycles in our house (first I wanted one, now my spouse does), I was interested. The husband of Nell's sitter has been riding one to work for years, and they have a sidecar for trips. Also, I saw a guy on a motorcycle (like this one)
this morning whose jacket was flapping around as he zipped up the expressway and he had at least two guns holstered in his belt. I hope he was a police officer. I've been talking a lot about firearms with people lately as well. Maybe sometime we'll turn into the Netherlands or Korea where everyone rides bikes, like Emily. We're (I mean the land use of the United States' metropolitan areas) not really dense enough for that, but maybe in a few decades if the former vice-president has his way.

Slow Month

Actually, its been a really busy month, and I've had little time for investigating the varieties of self-expression on the road. My mom and sister went on a road trip to California and I should've put them to work. Apparently Maggie, another sister, took some pictures for me while she was on her honeymoon, but I haven't seen them yet. So, to left is what I've got to show for myself in June. Truck #1 I snapped because of the Sons of Norway sticker on the lower right. I can't remember what the anti-roach sticker on the left is, but the upper right hand sticker is also something nordic. Truck #2 clearly is an open minded loving all people sort of individual. I'm guessing though they don't love Republicans as much. Just a guess, perhaps totally baseless.

Maybe July will be more fruitful. I am going to Indiana next weekend, so perhaps the Hoosiers will have something to say. Oh, and I learned something new. I kept seeing this black w/blue on cars, and apparently it is something for supporting the police, either friend/family in the force (don't pull me over) or it means "thin blue line". Since I may soon have a brother in law who is a cop, maybe I should get one.

Auburn Fishes

Left: an auburn fisher person. Maybe a marine biologist? If you zoom in you can see the Auburn Tigers swim and diving national championship bumper sticker and a lot of membership stickers for various zoos and aquariums. Places include Belize, Key West, and Lafayette LA.

Below: there are a lot of people with these apple stickers. I saw a Linux bumper sticker yesterday. But the apple stickers...its like saying, I'm hip (kind of like a vw bug says "i'm hip"...this driver is very hip), I'm not PC. But is it really hip if you have to wear a sign? Just asking. I'm not hip. I'm a nerd. Soon I'll post the "I've been going to a lot of school" picture, and use my own car as an example.

Bumper Sticker Philosophy

For a long time I've wanted to have a place to collect pictures of cars covered in bumper stickers. If I were an anthropologist I might try to analyze the meaning of the amalgamation of stickers that collect over time on the backs of vehicles. Sometimes they are very coherent declarations of life philosophy: darwin fish+well behaved women rarely make history+democratic campaign stickers for several prior elections+World Wildlife Fund+Appalachian Trail sticker or a simple "W the president" + local sports team stickers + my child is an honor student at_________. Or, they are incomprehensibly inconsistent--those are my favorites. I hope people will send them to me and I will post them as I find them.
I love the one on this red wagon. The other photo is a fairly typical example of someone with their feelings on their car. Visit often.
